This rehabilitation master plan by Lemay is founded on socially responsible urban development. The interventions will renew the port spirit from the active role that the site played at the turn of the 20th century, giving the river back to Montrealers. With water as the unifying key element, four original docks from the old Port of Montreal will be revived, recreating their original footprint and recognizing the port’s significance to the city.
The 9.6-hectare site will feature a wide array of residential units and services responding to the needs of families and residents. Minimizing the area for automobile circulation will allow the project to achieve more green space, open water and attractive public places. More than 2,000 residential units are planned in buildings designed for environmental certification; one-quarter will be dedicated to social or affordable housing.
