What makes a school more than just a place to learn?
In the latest episode of Sketching Stories, Eric Pelletier shares the creative vision behind the reimagined Chambly Secondary School—a project that challenges traditional educational design to create a space that fosters connection, collaboration, and pride for its students and community.
Designed in consortium with Leclerc architectes and PRISME architecture, this in-progress project redefines the “corridor-centric” school layout by placing a dynamic heart at its centre. There, key spaces like the gymnasium, library, and cafeteria create a lively, interconnected environment where students can see, engage, and feel part of the school’s vibrant life.
The design goes further, weaving nature into the experience: A pedestrian axis, transformed into a lush garden, acts as an “oasis” linking the old and new buildings. The suspended walkway frames this green space, offering students a seamless transition between the past and future of their school.
At its core, Chambly Secondary School is about innovative architecture that builds a sense of pride and belonging for its students.
