We have some exciting news: At this year’s Mérites d’architecture, our team has been awarded five times for its work on the Grand Théâtre de Québec and Centre de glaces Intact Assurance!
This is an unprecedented achievement in the history of this biennial competition’s promotion of distinctive works of architecture, urban design and heritage preservation: It’s the first time a firm has been awarded this many times in one year.
Rising up from a collection of 28 finalists, the Grand Théâtre de Québec has been recognized four times with awards in the categories of Sustainable Building, Heritage Conservation and Preservation: Public Building, the Quebec City Planning and Conservation Commission Award: Public Building, and the Jury Prize.
From the jury:
“The jury appreciates the sustainable solution developed (for the Grand Théâtre de Québec) architecturally, structurally and mechanically, not only avoiding demolition of the building, but also ensuring that the original architecture was maintained.”
Meanwhile, the Centre de glaces Intact Assurance has received the top prize in the Architectural and Urban Integration of a Public Building category.
From the jury:
“Installing a building like this, on a site surrounded by highway lanes and pre-existing facilities, represented a serious challenge in terms of architectural integration and urban design. The jury recognizes that despite budgetary and functional constraints, it is possible to design an innovative project, facilitating community appropriation.”
We’ve an immense sense of pride for all of the teams who worked on these innovative projects, including Atelier 21 for Grand Théâtre de Québec and Ardoises Architecture for Centre de glaces Intact Assurance.
Congratulations to all the nominees and winners for their impactful work and visions for the future of design in Quebec!
