Replacing the city’s Conrad-Parent Arena, the new design pulls inspiration from its surroundings in a series of ways.
Directly inspired by the community’s Northern Quebec culture and the region’s natural landscapes, the new Sept-Îles arena will draw on local materials of wood and aluminum to shape it, and place territory and people at its heart.
Located in the city’s core and built at a pedestrian scale, its strong socio-cultural presence will integrate with the community gently—a “movement across water and materials” and “spectacle which opens up to the community”, here’s what its lead designer Jean-François Gagnon has to say:
“As a native of Sept-Îles, I’ve always been fascinated by the beauty and stillness of the islands, and the clean horizon line that cuts through the sky and sea. This contrast between a peaceful landscape and kinetic energy that guided the building’s design.”
As the arena’s been desired by its community for some time now, we’re proud to see it reach this milestone.
