Located at the gateway to downtown, Odea embodies a vision where environmental performance and cultural expression inform one another. The NET POSITIVE approach guided the design from the earliest stages, targeting reduced energy consumption and occupant well-being.

The biophilic concept draws on imagery from the boreal forest, the very essence of Cree territory. In the interior courtyard, a rain garden designed by a Cree artist evokes roots and the forest undergrowth. At the base of the building, a garden recalls tree branches. The green roof, in turn, mitigates heat islands and promotes stormwater retention.

The project also incorporates two heritage buildings, helping to reduce the carbon footprint while preserving the neighbourhood’s legacy.

This certification demonstrates what transdisciplinary collaboration can achieve when guided by a commitment to combining environmental performance with authentic cultural expression.
