Located in the heart of Old Quebec’s heritage site, this iconic 4,400 m² plaza now offers more welcoming, safe, and universally accessible spaces. The redesign has created a calmer traffic flow while providing an inviting environment for all users.

This meeting point between Notre-Dame de Québec Basilica-Cathedral and City Hall is now a flexible and adaptable space that hosts a multitude of events throughout the year. The widened sidewalks, high-quality urban furniture, and carefully designed architectural lighting enhance the site’s rich built heritage, creating an atmosphere that is both contemporary and respectful of Old Quebec’s history.

Innovation and sustainability characterize this remarkable project, notably through the design of a floating structure supported by piles that preserves the century-old elm trees. This ingenious solution protects the root systems while optimizing rainwater absorption.

This award reflects the excellent synergy between Stantec, the City of Quebec and the members of our landscape architecture team. Together, we have restored life and functionality to this important heritage site!
