The transformation of Avenue des Lumières is part of a major sustainable development initiative aimed at enhancing the urban experience at the heart of Quartier DIX30. The new thoroughfare emerges from the removal of 120,000 sq. ft. of asphalt, giving way to an expansive green space designed to foster relaxation, connection, and discovery. The pedestrianized avenue is made all the more accessible through its direct link to the REM station, just minutes away on foot.

The redesign of this 400-metre commercial street creates an immersive and safe pedestrian experience, where vehicular lanes and parking areas have been removed to make room for a flourishing linear park. Through significant façade improvements, the removal of canopies, intensive greening, fluid and welcoming pathways, quality furnishings, and the integration of flexible event spaces, this new environment offers a reimagined urban experience that is both immersive and inspiring.

The urban rehabilitation approach adopted for this project optimized existing infrastructure while instilling a strong and renewed identity in this key sector. This flagship project serves as the spearhead of an ambitious effort to redevelop and densify Quartier DIX30, with the objective of creating a dynamic, inclusive, and resilient living environment fully adapted to contemporary urban challenges.

The substantial reduction of hardscaped areas to create an expansive freshness island enhances user comfort and encourages active transportation. The creation of a green esplanade over an existing underground parking structure represents a crucial intervention that transforms an infrastructure devoid of landscape and environmental qualities. The integration of rain gardens promotes bioretention, while extensive vegetation and sustainable features contribute to the space’s climate resilience.
