Restoring vital public spaces

Restoring vital public spaces

The concept and execution of this rehabilitation project aim to unify the various public squares that make up the Champ de Mars, making it a unique and identifiable public space in the heart of the nation’s capital.

A flagship element of the Champs de Mars master plan, the Occide Jeanty amphitheatre was completely redesigned by Lemay and re-inaugurated in 2015. An artistic and cultural installation inspired by Haitian artistic practices and traditions, and named after the famous Haitian musician Occide Jeanty, the amphitheatre has been transformed to accommodate 4,000 spectators. It is accessible via a vast landscaped esplanade, enlivened by commercial kiosks and laid out with distinctive street furniture. Lemay was responsible for supervising the work undertaken by a Haitian construction company.
