Former warehouse integrates holistic, sustainable approach

This major office relocation to an industrial area posed an exciting challenge for our architecture, interior design and landscape architecture teams. A unique instance of adaptive reuse, it celebrates TELUS’ long-time commitment to sustainability and culture, with a clever use of materials and built space – inside and out.

The retrofit of the former bottle warehouse provides more flexibility to Canada’s fastest-growing telecommunications company. Building envelope upgrades, exterior grading and landscaping extend the workplace into an outdoor amenity space to promote balance and wellness. Features in the outdoor pavilion include a “solar flower” hybrid generator that converts solar power and alternative fuels to provide a constant green power source for amenities, including an outdoor bench with built-in charging stations and electric car parking. A dramatic outdoor canopy hosts skilfully arranged solar panels that offer a shaded outdoor employee rest area, while directing views away from adjacent industrial properties.
