SOPREMA Woodstock plant has earned two significant distinctions: LEED v4 Core and Shell certification and the Smart Building Award at the Green Solutions Awards presented during COP30 in Belém, Brazil. Together, these achievements underscore the project’s commitment to high-performance, climate-ready industrial design.

Designed through a transdisciplinary collaboration involving SOPREMA, Lemay, and Pomerleau, the facility integrates a range of sustainability strategies uncommon in Canada’s industrial sector. These include enhanced daylight access across the different sectors of the building, green roofs, reduced embodied carbon with recycled content, rainwater management with landscaping, 100% of roofs and exterior surfaces are reflective or vegetated. Those features contribute to reduced energy demand and long-term operational resilience.

The Smart Building Award celebrates exemplary projects that combine environmental performance, energy efficiency, and intelligent systems integration. The Woodstock plant stood out for its cohesive approach to sustainability and its ability to apply advanced design thinking within a large-scale industrial context.

Operational since 2020, the facility has strengthened SOPREMA’s presence in Ontario while setting a benchmark for responsible industrial development. Its recognitions at COP30 reflect a growing expectation for workplaces and production environments to support broader climate objectives through thoughtful, integrated design.
