With 184 submissions reviewed by the jury, this year’s program was among the most competitive in recent years, making the recognition especially meaningful for the collaboration behind it.

Designed by gh3* and Lemay, the project proposes a new anchor for Scarborough’s population: one with the largest Tamil community in Canada. The design responds to that history with spaces that support gathering, cultural practice, recreation, and intergenerational exchange.

The concept is shaped by sustained engagement with community leaders and by a design language that draws from many cultural traditions without relying on direct symbolism.

Material choices carry cultural and contextual significance as well. Brick cladding connects Tamil Nadu’s masonry traditions with Toronto’s own brick-making history, grounding the building in both places at once.

Thank you to Canadian Architect and the jury for this recognition, this award is to be shared with the community we are honoured to be collaborating with on this project!
