This certification substantiates the wealth of combined expertise in sustainable strategies, architecture, interior design, and landscape architecture required to realize this zero-carbon workplace.

At 11,287 square metres over three stories and a capacity for 550 occupants, Teck Sparwood has an expansive presence in a delicate landscape, which makes the reduction of its carbon footprint essential. Now, it is the largest office building in Canada to achieve this certification.

Its milestone was made possible through features that draw on NET POSITIVE’s three core areas of environment, carbon, and health. These include carbon reductions from energy-efficient and natural lighting, solar panels, EV charging stations, and electric heating. There is also a connection to the environment with reused water, rainwater harvesting, and drought-resistant landscaping. Additionally, users are supported through post-COVID-19 grade HVAC systems, outdoor amenity spaces, and access to nature.

Now, Teck Sparwood represents a landmark for both its mountainside community as well as our team: It’s our first project in Western Canada to reach this benchmark, deepening our continued efforts to decarbonize the built world.
