Used daily by thousands of riders across the Greater Montreal area, the Réseau Express Métropolitain (REM) has quickly become a defining piece of the region’s transportation network.
The project received a 2025 Award of Merit in Urban Design from the AIA Canada Design Awards, recognizing its contribution to metropolitan-scale mobility and urban integration.
Developed by the Lemay + Perkins&Will + Bisson Fortin consortium, the REM represents one of the most ambitious transportation initiatives undertaken in recent history. The project required close transdisciplinary coordination to respond to complex technical, urban, and operational requirements of the endeavour.
The award acknowledges both the scale of the network and the care taken in its design, from station integration within varied urban contexts to the creation of a system that supports efficient, seamless movement across the region. Together, these elements contribute to a more connected and resilient metropolitan transportation framework.
This recognition highlights the collective expertise and sustained collaboration behind a project that now plays a central role in everyday mobility across Montreal.
