How can design be an instrumental role in fostering a sense of belonging, visibility, and community building for Indigenous communities?

This question is one of many Design Principal Jean-François Gagnon will be discussing in his upcoming presentation “Design as a Vehicle for Truth & Reconciliation”:

Where? The AIA Conference on Architecture in San Francisco

When? On June 9 from 4pm to 5pm

With the 25-storey mixed-use tower of ODEA as a prime example, Jean-François will discuss his experience with collaborating and integrating First Nations’ design symbolism in the project: What role did it play in its concept and design?

As a result of the collaborative process with the Cree Nation and Indigenous emeritus architect Douglas Cardinal for ODEA, Jean-François’s presentation will bring a unique approach and perspective to AIA.

Marking the first time our colleagues have taken to this prestigious international stage, it’s an honour to have him represent the work our teams, and doubly so when considering the prescient nature of the talk and what it means for designing alongside Indigenous communities.
