Held by Construction21, a platform specialized in sustainable construction and cities, the competition seeks entries that demonstrate concrete examples of accelerated carbon emission reduction. Submissions are then assessed by a varied jury of architects, engineers, journalists, and beyond as well as a public vote.

With the Circular Economy Prize, an award for a reused building that makes use of positive eco-designs, the Phenix was recognized for its transformation of a 1950s era warehouse. According to Construction21, the jury chose to reward it because of its precise and sustainable renovation of industrial heritage.
