Enhancing an industrial building’s architectural value

Montreal’s historic Faubourg des Récollets is the setting for this expansion project at 620 Saint-Paul St. W., which takes its inspiration from the urban architectural renewal redefining the sector’s built environment. Bounded by De Longueuil and Saint-Paul Streets and an alleyway, the project for the John Lysaght Limited Building, built in 1904, involved preserving three historic existing façades.

The architectural proposal is a careful integration of a building of heritage interest and a contemporary volume. Lemay’s approach creates a dialogue between eras and enhances the property’s heritage value. The process resolves technical and aesthetic challenges to create a coherent and structuring whole.
