An architecture of trust, presence, and community.
Designed as a meeting place where Gatineau police (SPVG) staff and community interact, the SPVG police headquarters offers an environment that balances authority with openness. Its architecture aspires to embody the vision of a police service oriented toward the community, attentive to victims, effective in its mission, and respectful of those who work there daily.
Steering from the enclosed, rigid stereotype of traditional police stations, the design uses curving volumes and visual permeability that signal transparency and connection with the community. Three organic volumes respond to the site and its uses: the first, at a public scale, invites in the community; the second, at the heart of the headquarters, asserts an emblematic presence at the city scale; the third integrates staff spaces with the circulation ramp, offering engaging views of the building.
Landscape and ecological interventions—green roofs, framed visual openings toward the river and park, and continuity with surrounding green corridors—root the headquarters in its urban and natural setting, enhancing environmental performance and workplace quality. Through its materiality, organization, and form, the design creates a place anchored in its urban context, where police and community meet, work, and coexist.
