The design of Royalmount’s inclusive washrooms reimagines them as restorative moments within the visitor’s journey.
A carefully choreographed sequence guides users from a calming threshold animated by a digital art installation to a communal sink island before arriving at more intimate alcoves and private stalls. Inclusive planning is embedded throughout, accommodating gender-neutral use, families, and a full range of accessibility needs through the architecture itself.
Warm surfaces work to soften the surrounding retail environment to make a necessary stop a relaxing one. The result is a space where accessibility, materiality, and spatial experience are conceived as a single architectural gesture rather than separate elements.
This approach, developed in collaboration with Borrallo Interiors and Chrome Design, has been recognized with a Best of Canada Award from Canadian Interiors in the Single Detail category. It marks a third distinction for the project, which was previously named Grand Winner in Interior Design and won the Award of the Year at the Grands Prix du Design 2025.
