How do you turn a 1950s industrial warehouse into a carbon-neutral work environment? That’s the question that guided the transformation of Le Phénix, our head office at 3500 Saint-Jacques Street. The building wasn’t demolished, it was reinvented. Its existing structure was preserved, then rethought to shrink its footprint and test sustainable strategies at full scale.

As part of Montréal Climate Week, we’re opening our doors on September 10. The tour, led by Hugo Lafrance, Partner and Director of Sustainable Strategies, and Bryan Marchand, Architect and Design Director, runs from the workspaces up to the solar-panelled roof.

It looks at innovations in workspace design and the role solar energy can play in a decarbonization strategy. Rethinking an existing building rather than tearing it down means recognizing that today’s building stock is also tomorrow’s climate worksite. Design then becomes a concrete lever against climate change.
