Designed by Jodoin Lamarre Pratte architectes and Lemay in consortium, the P4 parking facility at Montréal-Trudeau International Airport (YUL) has achieved Envision Verified certification. It is the first parking structure and the first airport infrastructure project in Canada to receive this distinction.
In an airport environment, every sustainability strategy must respond to unique operational constraints. On the roof, a white surface helps mitigate the urban heat island effect. The facility’s 184 photovoltaic panels are elevated and carefully oriented to eliminate glare and avoid affecting pilot visibility. One quarter of the roof is vegetated with plant species selected in collaboration with wildlife management specialists to ensure they do not attract birds. Its modular concrete structure extends the building’s lifespan and enhances resilience to climate-related risks. The facility was also designed for future adaptability and could be converted to other uses, including office space, should expanded public transit reduce long-term parking demand.

Awarded by the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure (ISI), the Envision certification assesses the sustainability performance of infrastructure projects. Its criteria include quality of life, resource stewardship, energy efficiency, climate resilience, and environmental protection. The P4 facility was evaluated against 64 criteria.
This certification recognizes the collective work of the teams in sustainability strategy, architecture, landscape architecture, and wayfinding, whose expertise helped bring this ambitious project to life.

Opened in February 2024, the P4 facility provides 2,800 parking spaces and is among the first projects completed under YUL’s infrastructure modernization program.
